Nature's Love —

Don’t say nature is ruthless and uncaring,

Don’t reduce everything down to survival.

A mother really cares for her child,

Whether that child is a person or an animal.

To care for another is a string that runs through us,

To work day and night to feed our loved ones.

To protect dear ones from the heat and cold,

To protect dear ones from weather and predators.

Don’t say there is no human love in animals,

That fish and insects don’t know how to care or love.

Don’t say that they are so different from us,

For there were mothers and fathers before humans.

Before a person stood on this beautiful planet,

There were animals who cared for their offspring.

Was this parental love not a true form of love?

Is the love of nature not a true source of love?

The great mother of blue and green shining in space,

Who gave life to volcanoes and mountain ranges.

Who gave life to rivers and to the air,

Who gave life to watery wombs.

Who gave life to millions of species,

Who supported the bodies of countless many.

Who gave nutrients to the food in the world,

Whose richness is the life force flowing in us.

What are the divisions and lines of love -

That has separated humans from others?

From their mother, their sisters and brothers,

From a source of love springing eternal.

To see the love of a kind mother or father,

Is to see a love flowing and pulsing.

Is to see the love within all humans,

And the human within all animals.
